Big Brother 28: One Button, $10K, and a Whole Lot of Trouble

Well, Big Brother wasted absolutely no time moving on from that crazy double eviction. After Barrett and Yash were sent packing on Thursday, the Final Five walked back into the house knowing they had little room for mistakes. And then Big Brother decided to make things even more complicated.

First, we saw some of the fallout from the double eviction. Yash’s eviction was especially interesting because there were a lot of conversations happening behind the scenes about who should actually go. Melody was getting pulled in several different directions, while Drew found himself right in the middle once again. He promised different people what they wanted to hear, all while keeping his options open.

Dee, meanwhile, was already thinking about her next target. She and Devens started talking about Drew, with Dee making it pretty clear that she hasn’t forgotten Drew voting against her. Devens wasn’t quite as ready to turn on Drew, though. He sees Drew as someone who could potentially help him get further in the game.

And then came the twist

And then came the twist. Former houseguest Vince returned to the house with a little Egyptian-themed surprise. The houseguests were given the opportunity to press a button for a chance at $10,000. If nobody pressed it, everyone would get $1,000. Of course, this is Big Brother, so there was absolutely no way that was going to be free money!

Devens ultimately pushed the button, taking the $10,000 for himself. And, yep, there was a catch. The Pharaoh’s Curse was activated, meaning the houseguests would face an extra eviction. The only way to guarantee safety? Win the new Head of Household or Power of Veto.

So now we had another HOH competition, and this one was a doozy. The houseguests had to carefully stack 30 pieces of treasure using a tool called the Pyramid Pinchers. It looked simple enough, but apparently it was anything but. The competition went on for hours, with everyone getting increasingly frustrated.

In the end, Devens pulled it off and became the new HOH. He also earned safety from the Pharaoh’s Curse, which was obviously huge.

Now comes the really interesting part. Devens and Dee began discussing their options, and Drew suddenly found himself in danger. Devens doesn’t really want to nominate him, but Dee believes Drew and Melody need to be split up. Drew isn’t exactly thrilled about that plan and tries to convince Devens that he has been loyal to the Icons.

The episode ends with Devens caught between Dee and Drew, and we don’t yet know exactly where he’ll land.

With only five people left, every decision is enormous. There is nowhere left to hide, and this Pharaoh’s Curse has made the road to the Final Four even more unpredictable. Wednesday’s episode can’t get here soon enough!

Player of the Week: Devens definitely gets this one. He won the HOH competition when the game is down to just five players, putting himself in a great position heading into the next round. He also had some big decisions to make about who he wanted to target, with Drew and Melody being the names he was considering. But since the episode ended before the nominations were officially made, we’re left hanging on exactly what Devens is going to do. Winning that HOH was still a huge accomplishment, though, especially with the game moving this quickly.

Oops of the Week: I think this one ALSO has to go to Devens for triggering that Pharaoh’s Curse! Taking the $10,000 was certainly tempting, but it came with a pretty high price: speeding up the game and adding another layer of uncertainty to an already chaotic Final Five. Of course, Devens then won HOH, so maybe he’s laughing all the way to the bank. Still, accepting that money definitely made things a whole lot more complicated for everybody!
