Big Brother 28 Celebrates 1,000 Episodes With Legends, a Shocking Eviction and a Wild New Twist

The milestone finally arrived! Big Brother 28 celebrated the franchise’s historic 1,000th episode Thursday night with a supersized 90-minute special that mixed nostalgia, legendary houseguests, competition and one of the most unusual twists of the season. The episode marked Big Brother becoming the first primetime television series to reach 1,000 original episodes, a remarkable achievement after more than 26 years on television.

The celebration brought back some of the biggest names in Big Brother history, with fan voting determining which former houseguests would be highlighted in special categories. The three headline awards were Favorite Showmance, Favorite Winner and Best Player to Never Win. Americory—America Lopez and Cory Wurtenberger—were among the major fan favorites for the showmance honor, while Janelle Pierzina was the leading choice for Best Player Never to Win and Dan Gheesling was heavily favored in the Favorite Winner category heading into the celebration. The returning legends helped turn the episode into a giant Big Brother family reunion, giving longtime viewers plenty of reasons to celebrate the franchise’s history.

But this was still a game night, and the houseguests quickly discovered that nostalgia would not protect anyone. With Drew Campbell, Mallory Aurichio, and Taylor Brown sitting on the block. The BB Block Buster once again became the most important competition of the week. Going into the episode, Mallory was considered the biggest target, while Drew had become increasingly vulnerable as the battle between the newer players and the veterans intensified.

In the end, Mallory was evicted by a vote of 6 to 2. Barrett tried to rally votes to save her, but with Drew winning the BB Blockbuster, her fate was sealed.

The biggest question, however, was what CBS had been teasing for weeks: the “biggest twist of the summer.” Julie Chen Moonves and producers had made it clear that the 1,000th episode would launch something capable of changing the game. The hints became even crazier. There would be no Head of Household competition. No Power of Veto competition. And, most importantly, someone would be evicted before Thursday’s next live show. That means the houseguests could be heading into a week unlike anything they have experienced before. With nominations and eviction potentially happening at lightning speed.

The veterans, F.A.P. players, and remaining newcomers are already battling for control. The new twist could completely scramble the power structure. Julie told the Live Feeders that there would be no Live Feeds until after Sunday’s show. The 1000th episode ended with a sneak peek into the new twist. This left the fans speculating on what would come next.
