When Voices Clash and Mentors Enter the Ring: A Recap of Monday’s The Voice (Oct 27) Episode
Voice
Monday’s episode of The Voice, Season 28 Episode 10 titled “The Battles Part 4 / The Knockouts Premiere,†delivered both the final of the Battle Rounds and the kickoff to the Knockouts, and turned out to be a dramatic evening full of strong vocals, strategic moves, and high stakes.
The show opened with one of the last Battle matchups: on Team Snoop, artists Jerrell Melton and Ralph Edwards squared off singing “Lose Control†by Teddy Swims. Coach Snoop Dogg made the tough call, ultimately choosing Ralph as the winner, citing a spark in his voice that elevated the performance. The other coaches chimed in too: Coach Reba McEntire praised the performance as “so good,†while Coach Michael Bublé told Jerrell his voice was “gorgeous smoothness… You have such a wonderful instrument.â€
Team Reba
Next up was Team Reba’s battle between Shan Scott and Peyton Kyle performing “Don’t Dream It’s Over†by Crowded House. Reba had them start acoustic and then bring in the band, helping build the moment. Shan brought a more laid-back hippie vibe, Peyton more grit, and so Reba picked Peyton to advance.
On Team Niall, the pairing of Dek of Hearts and Jack Austin delivered a strong rendition of “I Will Wait†by Mumford & Sons, complete with three-part harmonies. While the coach picked Dek as the winner, Michael Bublé swooped in with a steal and grabbed Jack for his own team — a final steal of the Battles round.
As we moved into the Knockouts premiere, the tone shifted: the rules had been sharpened (no more steals, no saves) and two new “mega mentors” arrived: Joe Walsh (of the Eagles) and Zac Brown (of the Zac Brown Band) to help coach the remaining artists.
First Knockout
In the first Knockout for Team Reba, artists Leyton Robinson and Aubrey Nicole took on “I Could Use a Love Song†by Maren Morris and “I’m Gonna Love You Through It†by Martina McBride, respectively. Though both were strong, Reba chose Aubrey to move on. On Team Snoo,p the next pairing featured Kenny Iko and Ralph Edwards (yes, Ralph again, now in a new matchup) singing “There Goes My Baby†by Usher and “Dive†by Ed Sheeran. Snoop picked Ralph. Finally, on Team Niall, Sadie Dahl and Ava Nat sang “Too Good at Goodbyes†by Sam Smith and “Hopelessly Devoted to You†by Olivia Newton‑John and in a surprise decision, Niall selected Ava to advance.
The mood was tense: with no safety net, each artist knew this was make-or-break. One piece of mild controversy bubbled in the fan discussion because viewers noted Coach Michael’s comment to Ralph in the Battles, “You will go far in this show.†It was uttered before the winner was announced, raising eyebrows about whether the choice was already predetermined.
In short, the Battles wrapped with some standout voices (especially Ralph and Peyton) and Coach Michael’s strategic steal of Jack. Then the Knockouts opened with new mentors, fresh energy, and a heightened sense of urgency. As the competition narrows, the pressure is on and the stakes are higher than ever.
