The Amazing Race

On the October 22 episode of The Amazing Race titled “I Wanna Be a Little Angry Right Nowâ€, the remaining teams of Season 38 landed in beautiful Croatia and hit the pavement (and one seriously steep hill) hard. After flying into Dubrovnik, the nine teams received their first clue at the Monument to Ivan Gundulić, which sent them into a Detour: Fisherman Haul or Skin ’Em All. In Fisherman Haul, teams hauled a heavy fishing net. Picked up a bucket of chum, then transported everything to the old port. In Skin ’Em All, teams filleted two monkfish with precision.

In that Detour, teams split their strategies: Kyland Young & Taylor Hale, Izzy Gleicher & Paige Seber, Kristine Bernabe & Rubina Bernabe, Hannah Chaddha & Simone Chaddha, and Jack Baham & Chelsie Baham went with filleting. Meanwhile, Tucker Des Lauriers & Eric Des Lauriers, Jas Bains & Jag Bains, and Joseph Abdin & Adam Abdin chose the haul. The filleting option proved tricky when Rubina accidentally cut her thumb and needed medical attention, setting her team back.

Detour

After the Detour, a game-changer arrived: a Double U-turn. Jag & Jas used theirs to U-Turn Izzy & Paige, and Joseph & Adam used the other to U-Turn Kristine & Rubina. The move stirred drama among this cast of returning competitors, who have overlapping histories on Big Brother.

Next came the Roadblock: one team member had to assemble a racing kart (a “karićeâ€), then complete a street-luge course in under 36 seconds. Tucker and Eric built and raced effectively to finish first once again, showing they’re serious contenders. Other teams visibly struggled — tears were shed. Izzy & Paige, Kristine & Rubina, and teams forced by the U-Turn fought hard to catch up.

Pit Stop

The Pit Stop rankings were as follows. Tucker & Eric came in first; Kyland & Taylor grabbed second; Jas & Jag landed third; Joseph & Adam fourth; Natalie & Stephanie (not detailed in challenge breakdown) came fifth; Jack & Chelsie sixth; Izzy & Paige seventh; Kristine & Rubina eighth; and Hannah & Simone finished last and were eliminated.

This episode finely balanced travel-thrill and interpersonal heat. The Croatian backdrop was stunning, the tasks were physically and mentally demanding, and the U-Turn twist brought simmering alliances and rivalries into the foreground. The emotional meltdown at the Roadblock, plus the strategic hits at the U-Turn zone, made this one of the more memorable legs this season.
