The Amazing Race: High Altitude Hurdles and Down-to-Earth Mayhem in Romania
In the seventh episode of The Amazing Race Season 38, titled “It Feels Like Falling the Whole Time,†airing Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the remaining teams left Croatia and flew into Romania for a leg that combined extreme adrenaline with rustic challenges. From the moment the briefcase was opened, the tone was set: first book a flight from Split to Bucharest, then sky-dive from 13,000 ft, corral sheep, build a boat, choose a Detour between making bricks or crafting masks, and race to the Pit Stop at Carol Park in Bucharest.
At the start of this leg, the teams in Split, Croatia, were instructed to travel by taxi to a local travel agency (Smokvina Travel) in order to book flights to Bucharest, Romania. The order in which teams arrived at the travel agency and how quickly they secured seats directly affected the lead they would carry into the next tasks.
Several teams, Tucker & Eric, Kyland & Taylor, Jas & Jag, and Joseph & Adam, managed to book the first flight, scheduled to arrive in Bucharest at approximately 3:50 p.m. local time. Meanwhile, the team of Natalie & Stephanie arrived at the agency just behind Joseph & Adam but were not allowed to cut ahead; the guys wouldn’t let them, resulting in Natalie & Stephanie being forced onto the second flight, scheduled to land at 8:35 p.m., along with Jack & Chelsie and Izzy & Paige.
Bucharest
Teams arriving on the first flight landed in Bucharest several hours earlier, they gained a clear head start. It enabled them to arrive at the subsequent Roadblock sky-diving location earlier, pull their jump tickets sooner, and start the next challenge ahead of the later-arriving teams. For example, Joseph & Adam from the first flight were the first to start the Roadblock once the skydivers opened in the morning.
The delayed flight arrival for Natalie & Stephanie put them at a significant disadvantage. They landed later, commenced their skydive later, then had to hurry to catch up in the sheep-herding, boat, and Detour tasks. This timing gap created pressure and, as it turned out, contributed to their elimination at the Pit Stop.
So in short, the travel-agency/flight segment was less about picking exotic routes and more about speed and timing. Being early to the booking counter translated directly into a tangible lead once on Romanian soil. That initial advantage carried through until the Pit Stop.
Once on Romanian soil.
Once on Romanian soil, the real plunge awaited. The Roadblock required one team member to skydive from 13,000 ft above Romania, the highest tandem skydive in the show’s history. Once they touched down, they ran to a nearby sheep farm where teams had to corral exactly five sheep marked in blue into a pen, despite the animals tending to stick together.
The teams made their way to a pontoon boat task. They had to assemble the boat and navigate out to a floating clue in the water with no swimming allowed. Then they faced the Detour: “Brick Builder†or “Mask Maker.†In Brick Builder, teams built ten clay-straw-manure bricks called “chirpici.†In Mask Maker, they crafted traditional winter masks meant to ward off evil spirits. Most teams opted for the bricks, but one team chose mask-making.
At the finish line, the brother duo Tucker & Eric took first place, earning their fourth leg win and $5,000 each. The team eliminated at the Pit Stop in last place was sisters Natalie & Stephanie. They struggled with several tasks, faced some internal tension. Ultimately, they could not recover in time.
During the Detour
During the Detour, the team of Izzy & Paige chose the mask-making option. They worked methodically. Got their masks approved on the first check. Allowing them to hold on and avoid elimination. The bricks challenge proved tricky for some teams. Stephanie and Natalie misread a clue and parked in the wrong area. Costing them valuable time.
The combination of thrills (skydiving), rural challenges (sheep herding), and cultural tasks (brick-making, mask-crafting) made this leg stand out. It tested everything from fear of heights to patience with livestock to fine motor skills in crafting. In the end, the fast-start team (Tucker & Eric) reaffirmed their dominance. The once-strong sisters (Natalie & Stephanie) slipped out at just the wrong moment.
