Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic frontman of the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath, has passed away at the age of 76, marking a significant moment in the history of rock music. He had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for 1 year.

In January of 2020, Ozzy let his fans know that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In 2023, he decided to stop touring, citing a back injury he had sustained in 2018 as the reason.

Ozzy’s family sent this message to fans around the world: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, in 1948, Ozzy’s early life was marked by hardship. He faced numerous challenges including poverty and family dysfunction, which arguably informed his later artistic persona. In 1968, along with guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, he formed Black Sabbath. The band’s self-titled debut album introduced a darker sound characterized by heavy guitar riffs and ominous lyrics that would lay the foundation for what is now recognized as heavy metal music. Their work not only resonated with audiences but also inspired countless artists across various genres.

Ozzy’s last live performance was just a few weeks ago in Birmingham, England. It was the last concert that Black Sabbath as a whole would perform. The show was titled ” Back to the Beginning.” Legendary bands like Metallica, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Guns N’ Roses. A few more bands were present.
