Cancel Culture: Has It Gone Too Far?
Recently, Love Island USA removed Cierria Ortega from the show for remarks made in 2019 and 2020. Cierria entered the Villa as the first Bombshell of the season. She ended up coupling up with Nic Vansteenbughe. They became the first couple to be closed off.

Fans seemed to get upset with her coupling with Nic as it led to Belle-A ‘s removal from the Island as she failed to form a new couple. Things only got worse for her in the fans’ eyes after America’s Vote left 6 Islanders up for elimination.
Cierria decided to join her partner, Nic, in saving Taylor, not Andrina, as the other girls did.
Internet sleuths started a big dive into her past. One shared a screenshot that she took years ago from one of Cierria’s IG posts. This post had fans issuing death threats to her and her family. Was the saving of this post done to destroy her life in the future, the question that needs answering is Why?
Was the slur wrong for her to say? ABSOLUTELY !!! But should anyone be judged by today’s standards for something said 5 or 6 years ago. Because as people get older, they learn from their mistakes.
Questions Fans May Need To Answer
Are we any better than the statement made if we dig this stuff up just to destroy their lives? The issue seems to be that fans did not like her behavior on their favorite reality show. If that is the case, criticize that behavior. If allowed cast punishment votes their way.
Because everyone has said, done, or written something that can now be taken as a slur of some sort. Should we all be subjected to the same level of hate and threats awarded our Reality TV Alumni?
The Reality Times reached out to Cierria’s parents and supporters for a comment but unfortunately, did not hear back in time for a response. We did find their response on Cierria’s IG Account.
Because Love Island USA Fans are not the only ones who seem to go above and beyond digging into Reality contestants’ lives. Love Is Blind and Big Brother US fans have been known to do the same. Dislike their behavior on the show, criticize that, but leave their past in the past, where you want yours kept.
