Big Brother 28: Yash Does It Again, and the Icons Are in Trouble

Well, Barrett finally did what everyone knew he was going to do eventually. He took his shot at the Icons, and Wednesday night’s episode made it pretty clear that this week could completely change the direction of the game.

After winning HOH, Barrett put Angela, Dee, and Devens on the block. All three Icons. No hiding behind a pawn, no pretending it was just a backdoor plan. Barrett basically looked at the biggest power structure in the house and said, “Yep, I’m coming for all of you.”

And naturally, the Icons were not thrilled.

Angela seemed especially determined to fight her way off the block, while Dee was working just as hard behind the scenes to make sure she wasn’t the one walking out the door. Devens, meanwhile, found himself in the strange position of being one of the nominees while also trying to figure out whether he was actually the target.

Then came the Veto competition! The competition was the classic BB Comics setup. The houseguests were essentially racing against the clock to study the comic-book covers, identify the correct versions, and put the comics in the proper order. They had to fly down a zipline, look through a window at the comic covers, and then reconstruct the sequence. They also had to avoid accidentally choosing one of the fake “bootleg” covers.

And there were some really funny comics this year. All 17 houseguests got their own superhero-style cover, some with ridiculous names like “The Eggsecutioner” and “Rebel Without a Comb.”

The strategy was interesting, too. Taylor talked about wanting to study all the differences first before making her run, rather than just flying through and hoping she remembered everything. She still had trouble putting the correct sequence together, though…including apparently getting her own comic wrong!

But once again, Yash was Yash.

He managed to put everything together faster than everyone else and won the Power of Veto by 26 seconds. He reportedly had a 45-minute time limit, so that was a pretty impressive margin in a competition where every second mattered. And this was Yash’s third Veto win of the season!

Yash has somehow turned into the guy who can win a competition whenever he really needs to. After everything he has already won, you would think the other houseguests would be getting tired of seeing his face at the Power of Veto ceremony. But there he was again, winning the veto. At this point, it is getting ridiculous.

And then came the big question: Would Yash use it?

The answer was no.

That decision left Angela, Dee, and Devens exactly where Barrett wanted them, and suddenly the Icons had to rely on their social games and campaigning rather than another competition win. Dee, in particular, went into full campaign mode. She worked to convince people that keeping her was better for their games than keeping Angela or Devens.

And honestly, she made some pretty good points.

The interesting thing about this week is that Barrett may have created a situation he can’t completely control. Taking out one of the Icons is obviously a huge move, but which Icon leaves matters. The three have been working together for a long time, and each one has a different relationship with the rest of the house.

Meanwhile, Yash continues to position himself in the middle quietly. He isn’t exactly loyal to the Icons, but he isn’t rushing to become their biggest enemy either. After winning yet another veto, he may actually be sitting in one of the best spots in the house right now.

Now we have to wait and see which Icon gets the boot.

Player of the Week: Yash. Seriously, what else can we say? Another veto win when the house desperately needed someone to make a decision.

Oops of the Week: The Icons. Being on the block together isn’t exactly the ideal way to prove that your alliance is still in control.

For the first time in a while, it really feels like the power in the Big Brother house is shifting. And I have a feeling Thursday night’s eviction is going to tell us just how big that shift is!
