The Tea Party That Wasn’t

Wednesday night’s Big Brother 28 episode picked up with Kamu firmly in control as Head of Household, but his week was anything but smooth. Between shifting alliances, a dramatic house meeting disguised as a tea party, and a Power of Veto that forced him to rethink his nominations, this was one of the messiest…and most entertaining…episodes of the season so far!

The July 29th episode revolved around two very different battles. The first played out during the Power of Veto competition, where Lyric fought for her safety and came away with the win. The second unfolded at what was supposed to be a fun tea party planned by Mallory, where tensions between Head of Household Kamu Kirk and Jason De Puy boiled over into one of the season’s biggest arguments so far. By the time the dust settled, Lyric had saved herself, Jason had taken her place on the block, and the house was more divided than ever.

Pickle-themed Power of Veto

The pickle-themed Power of Veto competition was both hilarious and surprisingly challenging. Players competed in pairs, with each spinning around holding onto a giant pickle for one minute. Once they were dizzy, they grabbed a pickle-shaped paddle with both hands and tried to knock balls launched at them into a giant skee-ball-style target to score points. At the end of the specified time period, the person with the most points would advance to the next round. Some players struggled just to stay oriented, sending balls wildly off target, while others slowly found their rhythm. Lyric and her partner handled the dizziness better than the rest of the field, staying composed and consistently landing higher-scoring shots. Their steady performance earned Lyric the Power of Veto and completely changed the direction of Kamu’s Head of Household week.

The episode’s biggest source of drama came from what was supposed to be a lighthearted tea party organized by Mallory for the entire house. Instead of bringing everyone together, it quickly turned into one of the season’s first major confrontations. Tensions between Kamu and Jason had apparently been simmering beneath the surface, and before long, the polite gathering erupted into a heated argument. Houseguests who had simply come to enjoy a fun afternoon suddenly found themselves watching the drama unfold from the sidelines. It was one of those classic Big Brother moments where you couldn’t look away, even as the situation became increasingly uncomfortable.

The tea party

As if the tea party hadn’t caused enough drama, Jason wasn’t about to let the moment die. Throughout the episode, he wandered around the house carrying the now-infamous teapot, jokingly using it as a prop and reminding everyone of the confrontation that had unfolded earlier. He decided that he would beat on the teapot to let Kamu know when he thought anyone was talking game or whispering together. He even banged on the teapot while Kamu was in the diary room! Some houseguests laughed along, while others were clearly ready for the joke to end. Whether he intended it as comic relief or a way to get under people’s skin, Jason made sure the teapot became an unforgettable character in its own right. It was one of those quirky Big Brother moments that had me laughing even while the game around it was getting increasingly tense.

Of course, that left Kamu with one final decision to make. Since one of his original nominees had come off the block, he was forced to name a replacement nominee, and surprise, surprise! He chose Jason! By the time the ceremony ended, the house dynamics had shifted once again, and it was obvious that relationships were becoming more complicated with each passing day.

One thing I’ve really enjoyed is that the strategy is finally catching up to the twists. The Time Trip theme is still present, but it no longer feels like the main attraction. Instead, we’re watching players navigate real alliances, difficult decisions, and the consequences of every conversation they have. That’s the version of Big Brother I love most, and this episode delivered plenty of it.

Not only did she save herself by winning the veto, but she also forced Kamu to reveal more of his plans. Anytime a nominee wins the veto, it reshapes the week, and that’s exactly what happened here.

Oops Award: Jason De Puy

If I had to narrow it to one person, I’d actually give it to Jason instead of making it a tie. Whether viewers agreed with him or not, he got into a very public confrontation with the HOH before the veto ceremony, and then he ended up as the replacement nominee. That’s about as rough a sequence as you can have in Big Brother.

This week we also have to have an honorable mention award!

☕ Funniest Moment: Jason and the Traveling Teapot.

The argument itself was intense, but Jason strolling through the house with that teapot afterward turned the whole thing into an instant Big Brother classic. It was such an absurd visual that I wouldn’t be surprised if fans are still joking about “the teapot” weeks from now. Sometimes it’s the little moments, not the competitions, that become the most memorable parts of a season.

And I have to say…the fact that Mallory planned a tea party only for it to turn into one of the biggest fights of the season is peak Big Brother. You truly can’t script that. It feels like one of those moments fans will remember for years to come:

“Remember that time when Mallory just wanted everyone to drink tea…and instead all hell broke loose?”

With Jason now joining the final nominees, Big Brother 28 Thursday’s live eviction suddenly feels much less predictable. Will the house stick to Kamu’s original plan, or will emotions from the tea party argument influence the vote? One thing is certain: the calm days of Week One are officially behind us, and Big Brother 28 is starting to find its stride.
