Wednesday night’s Big Brother 28 90-minute episode finally gave us our first Power of Veto competition of the season. But before we even got there, the biggest story in the house wasn’t the game; it was Mallory.

Ever since Dee nominated Mallory Aurichio, Taylor Brown, and Yash Patel, the pressure has clearly been getting to her. She spent much of the episode searching for reassurance, questioning where she stood with Dee and the rest of the house. Unfortunately, the more she sought comfort, the more it seemed to push people away. It was one of those classic Big Brother moments where you almost wanted to yell at the TV, “Stop talking!” because every conversation seemed to make her position worse. If this is what Week 1 Mallory looks like, we’re probably in for an emotional roller coaster this summer.

Head of Household

Meanwhile, Head of Household Dee Valladares continued to show why she won Survivor 45. Rather than making emotional decisions, she stayed calm and kept repeating that she wanted to make the move that created the fewest enemies. Whether that strategy works long-term remains to be seen, but she certainly wasn’t interested in making flashy television. Instead, she spent much of the episode gathering information and trying to manage everyone’s expectations while keeping her target on Yash.

The Power of Veto competition itself was a lot of fun and fit perfectly with the season’s “Time Trip” theme. The players had to race against the clock while navigating another creative, time-inspired challenge that tested both speed and precision. When the dust settled, it was Mallory who came away with the victory. After everything she’d been through emotionally, winning the veto couldn’t have come at a better time. It guaranteed her safety for the week and completely changed the direction of Dee’s Head of Household reign.

As expected, Mallory used the Power of Veto to remove herself from the block during the veto ceremony. That forced Dee to name a replacement nominee, and she ultimately chose Ashley Trail. That leaves the final nominees as Ashley, Taylor, and Yash heading into Thursday night’s live eviction. While Yash still appears to be Dee’s preferred target, the Blockbuster twist means nothing is guaranteed yet, and one of the nominees will still have a chance to save themselves before the vote.

The episode also continued to highlight the growing showmance between Rome and Lyric. Their relationship seems to be moving at lightning speed, and the rest of the house has definitely noticed. At the same time, alliances are beginning to take shape, loyalties are slowly forming, and everyone is trying to decide who can actually be trusted after only a few days together.

“Player of the Episode” goes to Mallory. She went from looking like she might completely unravel to winning the veto and saving herself. That’s a huge turnaround.

And the Oops Award? I think it has to go to Melody. Even the episode edit suggested she was damaging one of her closest relationships while trying to build new ones…a risky move this early in the game.

Overall, this was the strongest episode of the season so far because it finally let the strategy shine. The premiere gave us portals, dinosaurs, and volcanoes. Sunday’s episode crowned our first Head of Household. Tonight reminded us why we keep coming back to Big Brother: watching relationships form, mistakes snowball, and one competition completely change the course of the week. With the first live eviction just around the corner, Thursday promises to be the moment when the game truly begins.
