Big Brother 28: Devens Drops the Diamond…and Blows Up the Week!
Wednesday night’s episode of Big Brother 28 proved that just when you think you understand the power structure, somebody comes along and blows the whole thing up. Yash entered the week as Head of Household with a pretty clear plan, and after watching Haley survive the block last week, I was honestly hoping this might finally be the week she would go home. Instead, Yash nominated Haley, Angela, and Dee, with Haley once again finding herself in danger. What made the nominations especially interesting, though, was that Kamu was working behind the scenes to convince Yash that Dee was the bigger threat.
Devens
The Power of Veto competition brought back one of the most classic competitions in Big Brother: OTEV! This year’s version was called OTEV: The Belligerent B-Movie Blob, sending the houseguests back to the 1950s and the golden age of Hollywood as part of the season’s Time Trip theme. The competitors were Yash, Angela, Dee, Haley, Melody, and Barrett, and they had to search through the slime-covered competition area to find the correct headshot for each question OTEV gave them. The first player back with the correct answer was safe, while the last player to return was eliminated.
Angela was the last to arrive
The competition quickly became a battle of survival. Angela was the last to arrive in the first round, and then Dee and Haley both struggled in the next round. Haley’s early elimination was especially significant because she was on the block for the second consecutive week and desperately needed the veto. Melody was eliminated in the following round, leaving Barrett and Yash to battle it out in the final. Their last challenge involved finding the correct headshots of Ashley and Jason, and Yash once again came through. He reached the podium first, winning the Power of Veto and putting himself in position to keep the nominations exactly where they were.
Yash
But then came the moment that changed everything. Yash chose not to use the Power of Veto, seemingly locking in the nominations. Then Rick Devens stood up and announced that the veto meeting had just begun. He activated his Diamond Power of Veto, removing Dee from the block and replacing her with Kamu! Devens explained that he viewed Kamu as the biggest threat in the game. And suddenly the entire week had been turned upside down. Dee went from being in danger of eviction to being completely safe. Kamu, who had been working with Yash and had helped influence the original nominations, was suddenly fighting for his life.
The move also creates a fascinating situation for Thursday’s BB Block Buster. Kamu now has to win his way off the block. The house has to decide whether it is finally time to take a shot at one of the season’s bigger power players. Meanwhile, Haley survived another round of nominations without even needing the veto. Although she was once again on the wrong side of the competition. At this point, I honestly don’t know whether to be impressed or annoyed!
Player of the Episode
Player of the Episode: Rick Devens. This one is pretty easy. Devens didn’t just sit on his Diamond Power of Veto…he actually used it to make a major move. Whether it ultimately works out for him is another question, but he certainly wasn’t afraid to shake up the game.
Oops Award: Kamu Kirk. After helping convince Yash to put Dee on the block, Kamu suddenly found himself replacing her! That’s a pretty spectacular example of why you should always be careful about whose game you’re trying to control.
With Kamu now on the block, Dee safe, and Devens showing that he is willing to use his secret power. Thursday night’s eviction could be one of the most important of the season so far. And yes, I will be watching the BB Block Buster VERY closely!
