BB28: LaLa Takes The Wall, and the House Loses Its Mind

Sunday night’s episode of Big Brother 28 finally gave us a new Head of Household, and after last week’s chaos, the house desperately needed a little clarity. Instead, LaLa winning HOH may have created even more questions! With Lyric’s shocking eviction still fresh in everyone’s minds, the houseguests were left trying to figure out exactly how the expected plan to evict Mallory ended up with Lyric walking out the door. Nobody seemed to have a clear answer, and the mystery quickly became one of the biggest storylines in the house.

Big Brother Wall

The competition itself was the classic Big Brother Wall, one of those competitions that has become almost as much a part of the show as the Diary Room. The houseguests had to hold on as they were gradually battered by the elements to stay on the wall longer than everyone else. It is one of my favorite competitions because it isn’t about solving a puzzle or getting lucky.

It is about endurance, determination, and refusing to let go. LaLa proved she had what it took, hanging on until she was the last houseguest standing and earning her first HOH of the season. Not only that, it makes her the oldest houseguest ever to win the wall comp at the age of 58! And after watching her dominate the Wall, I have to admit that my 16-year-old’s earlier declaration that if LaLa can do it, Mom can do it too is looking a little more questionable!

LaLa’s HOH victory gave her the power to shape the next week, and she wasted little time making her nominations. She placed Barrett, Haley, and Chuk on the block, creating a very interesting mix of targets. Haley’s nomination was especially notable after her disastrous HOH week and her visible frustration over Lyric’s eviction. Chuk’s nomination was also interesting because, as much as I want to like him, I still find myself wondering what exactly he’s been doing all season! Now that he’s finally on the block, we may get to see whether there’s more to Chuk’s game than we’ve been shown so far.

The biggest mystery of the night, however, was the vote that sent Lyric home. The episode showed how the plan flipped, leaving the house–and especially Haley–stunned by the result. Haley had apparently been confident that the house would follow her preferred outcome, but three votes went the other way. Now the math is getting even more confusing, because five houseguests are claiming they voted for Mallory to leave. Unless somebody is lying, those numbers simply don’t add up. Whatever happened, the blindside exposed just how little control Haley actually had over the house…and that could be a much bigger problem for her now that her HOH reign is over.

BB Time Capsule

Meanwhile, the BB Time Capsule delivered another memorable punishment. Mallory was selected and discovered that she would have to spend 48 hours wearing an Adam-and-Eve-style costume alongside Melody. Yes, you read that correctly. The punishment is awkward enough on its own, but having to endure it with another houseguest for two full days makes it even better television. It may not give Mallory any strategic advantage, but it certainly guarantees that she won’t be able to quietly disappear into the background this week.

What I enjoyed most about this episode was how much uncertainty is hanging over the house. The players don’t know who they can trust, the Lyric vote has left everyone suspicious, and LaLa now has the power to decide who gets caught in the middle of all that chaos. The game feels like it is entering a new phase where simply being part of an alliance isn’t enough: you have to know whether the people around you are actually telling you the truth.

Player of the Episode

Player of the Episode: LaLa. Winning HOH immediately after such a confusing eviction puts her in a powerful position. Now she has the opportunity to take advantage of the uncertainty and establish herself as a serious player. As a fellow mature woman, I am LOVING seeing her excel!

Oops Award: The Five Vote Flippers. We already know who voted for Mallory to leave, thanks to Thursday night’s episode, so watching five houseguests insist that they cast those votes while the rest of the house tries to solve the mystery is absolutely hilarious. The viewers have the receipts; the houseguests are still playing detective. Now the question is whether anyone will figure out the truth before the vote comes back to haunt them.

Barrett, Haley, and Chuk ARE on the block. Mallory and Melody stuck together in their ridiculous punishment costumes. And the house still trying to solve the Lyric-vote mystery. Week Five is already shaping up to be another messy one. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way!
