Jeff Probst weighs in on major mistake in new era
Survivor has been a fan favorite for awhile now. The 47th season is now on CBS and streaming on Paramount Plus. Since season 41 Survivor ‘New Era’ has graced our television screens.

Seasons 1 through 40 lasted 39 days, whereas seasons 41 to present only lasted 26 days. This makes the castaways play a much faster game. During the podcast ‘Survivor On Fire’ Jeff asked season 46 runner up Charlie Davis a burning question.
Probst wanted to know ‘Why the ‘New Era’ castaways feel they must share with others when they find an idol or an advantage.
He is not the only one wondering why fans get frustrated when they tell.
In the latest episode Sol won an advantage. He used his advantage to save Rachel who was the only non Tuku Tribe member eligible to be voted off the island. His move forced the Tuku Tribe to vote off one of their own.
Jeff Probst Waits For Answer
According to Charlie Davis, Sol played it smart. He used his advantage but didn’t tell anyone he had found it. This puts him in a position of power depending on who and when he decides to reveal it was him who saved Rachel.
Jeff asked Charlie “Why in this ‘New Era’ do castaways feel they must tell someone or several people about an advantage or idol they have found?” Davis replied “It’s a great question, that’s hard to answer. ”
He continued “When you have good news in Survivor you want to share it with your friends or at least your number 1 in the game. You want others to know you did something really great. It’s a lot like getting a new job or a raise in the real world.”
Charlie added “Castaways, lately, seem to forget that telling others has a lot of consequences in the ‘New Era’ game of Survivor.” In the ‘New Era’ game castaways are creating a world in which the value system demands that you tell someone.”
The issue with telling your alliance creates a target on your back. It is like the old adage once you tell someone 4 other people know. For instance if you tell your alliance of 4, you know one is going to tell someone outside your alliance.
It, also, creates a dilemma in the game; where you want to share your advantage or idol, but there is no perfect way to play Survivor. Fans and former players know there is no playbook to go by.
