Crossovers: Will they make or break a show?
Recently, there has been a lot of talk around Reality Shows using reality stars from different shows on their shows. Fans have been questioning whether or not this is a good move—some tune in for this reason, or not so much.
Crossovers
The Amazing Race 38 features Big Brother Alumni.
Big Brother and The Amazing Race are two of the more popular reality shows that garner the largest fan base. Survivor has been recognized as the most-watched reality show.
One season of The Amazing Race had couples from Big Brother and Survivor making up half the couples racing that season. Now, the Amazing Race isn’t the only show to garner reality stars from other shows, The Challenge grabbed both Josh Martinez and Paulie Calafiore from Big Brother.
The Challenge also developed a new show called The Challenge US, which features reality stars from Big Brother, Survivor, Love Island, The Amazing Race, and The Challenge. The challenges are supposed to be easier than those on the original show.
Deal or No Deal Island used Crossovers
Deal or No Deal Island has also used crossover stars Boston Rob and Pavarti from Survivor US, and David from Survivor Australia. The Traitors have used stars from The Real Housewives Franchise, Survivor, Big Brother, Bravo Shows, and The Challenge.
Although fans of the shows used for these crossovers will tune in to see their favorite reality stars, they wonder if the reality stars have an unfair advantage over everyday people. They have an idea how other reality stars from their shows will compete.
The average person with no reality television background who signs up for these shows does not know how others will play the game. Reality television alumni know how to strategize. They have a better understanding of what works and what won’t work.
Mainstream networks are not the only ones using reality alumni from other shows. Netflix uses alumni from Love Is Blind, Perfect Match, Too Hot To Handle, and The Circle. Fans wonder if this creates a disadvantage for contestants applying.
What makes you tune in to your favorite reality shows? Is it the show or reality alumni from other shows? Using reality alumni, do you think it makes or breaks the show?
