Therron Pittman,exclusive, reaches the Summit
The Summit ended its first season with 3 trekkers making it to the summit. Reality TV fans are hoping for a season 2. We, at The Reality Times, had the privilege to talk to Therron about his time on the show and reaching the summit.
Therron Pittman
When asked what made you decide to challenge yourself to do this adventure? His answer was simple. “I’ve always loved competition, especially when it has the element of social strategy, so that was enough to get me to sign up.”
“Also my Dad passed away in 2021, that event left me in a weird headspace. The grief forced me on autopilot. I was constantly working and doing what I could to get through the day. I put my dreams on the backburner. So I saw this adventure as an opportunity to make a healthy change and switch things up.”
Other than making it to the summit what were your most terrifying/ proudest moments and what was the hardest decision you had to make? We asked him.
“My proudest moment was the Glacier Wall challenge. It was a turning point for me in the game. Up until then, my fear of heights was always at the forefront of my brain. Hours before that I had to eliminate a fellow trekker. The Glacier Wall became the perfect time for me to lead the group. Focusing on that challenge rather than my fears. That mindset adjustment helped me guide the team successfully that day.”
Therron Pittman talks Fears
As for his hardest moment he tells us that it was the backwards ziplining challenge. “Once they told me to let go of the rope I froze. I really thought I was letting go of my life line. You could see the fear in my eyes. LOL NEVER AGAIN!!!!”
He felt his hardest moment on his trek up the mountain was the push to get rid of BeckyLee. Stating “She played a phenomenal game and was an excellent strategist. It came down to what would be the best path forward for me to make it to the top. Love you BeckyLee.”
Therron told us it was really simple to apply for the show. He felt it was the same as any other CBS show that he had applied for. The only difference here was they didn’t know the name of the show; only being told they needed a passport.
He, also, told us there was no real physical element to the application process for the show. Saying “If the doctor cleared you, you were good to go.” Considering the trekkers conversed mountainous terrain and walked 100 miles in 14 days; this news surprised us.
On building trust and alliances Therron told us “At the beginning of the adventure I was close to Nick but as the game progressed I became close to Punkin and Beckylee. ” Stating “I was lucky enough to have found people I trusted right away.”
Pittman Talks Connections
” Instantly connected with Shweta and Nick on Day 1. We shared information early on which helped ease the feeling of not having trust. On Day 4 I linked up with Punkin and Beckylee which really set me up in the trust department.”
Pittman thinks trust is the biggest resource on the mountain saying “Trust can be scarce out there on the mountain but that doesn’t mean you can’t strike gold if you start early and look in the right places.”
For anyone wanting to challenge themselves for this adventure Pittman had 2 pieces of advice to pass along. “Be prepared for anything. I would say stamina is the key.”
“Be yourself. I think that is the golden rule of this show. At the beginning stages my cast consistently mentioned / nominated trekkers for being inauthentic. I’m not saying they were acting, but making connections on the mountain can be stressful.”
“The mountain had a way of creating tension that normally won’t be there; leaving people with a skewed perception of others at times.” As a P.S. he added “DON’T BE AFRAID OF HEIGHTS.” This could be good advice for any reality show.
The main goal of the show was to reach the summit in 14 days. On being one of the three winners Therron said “I cried some tears of relief because the journey was a bumpy ride at times. Never would I have done anything like this in my real life.”
“So the fact I was successful on my first try had me over the moon. I realized that I had accomplished something that not many others had done. Feeling very proud of myself. I am greater than my fears.”
As a fan of the show and all things reality television I rejoiced with Therron when he reached the summit. I felt as proud of his accomplishment as I would of one of my own children. We, at The Reality Times, wish him all the best in all his future endeavors.
