Game of Thrones Kit Harington Confirms Spinoff Series Jon Snow is Shelved
Kit Harington, the beloved actor who portrayed Jon Snow in the hit series Game of Thrones, recently confirmed that a spinoff series centered around his character is “off the table.” Fans of the show were left disappointed by this news, as many were hoping to see more of Jon Snow’s story unfold on screen.
Kit has provided Game of Thrones fans with an update that has disappointed about a forthcoming spinoff series centering around Jon Snow. He confirmed that the show will for now be put on a shelf for the unforeseeable future all due to the writers and producers “couldn’t find the right story to tell.”
In an interview with Screen Rant Kit stated, “I hadn’t really ever spoken about it, because it was in development. I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hate the idea of it, when it may never happen.”
Kit also said that people who were involved had to “look at every angle” to “see whether it’s worth it. Currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being.” In the future, we might see a spinoff but as of now it’s “firmly on the shelf” as per Kit.
Back in February of last year, Kit appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he did not utter one word about the project or reprising his role. He told Jimmy at the time, “”I can’t say anything.” But Joked to Jimmy and said he might be swayed to do another GOT series if asked and it would give him more attention than he had before.
He tells Jimmy, “I don’t know, man … I walk down the street and I get recognized a little less nowadays, and it kind of hurts my ego, you know? I’m pretty close to like putting on some furs. I have a tally in my head of how few photos I get asked for in a day. And when it gets below a certain number, I think I’ll do a spinoff.”
Since Game of Thrones had its finale in May 2019, there has been a few spinoff projects developed and there are still some going into development at HBO.
One of the first prequels that was produced is House of the Dragon which aired its first show in August 2022. In addition to HOD, there has been discussion of another show based on another popular book series written by George R.R. Martin.
Harington’s portrayal of Jon Snow was widely praised for its depth and complexity, making him one of the most iconic characters in television history. His decision to not pursue a spinoff series may come as a surprise to some, but it is clear that he wants to explore new opportunities and challenges as an actor.
While fans may be saddened by this news, they can take solace in knowing that Harington’s talent will undoubtedly shine in whatever project he chooses to pursue next. And who knows, perhaps one day we will see Jon Snow return to our screens in some other form.
