Savannah Chrisley, star of the reality TV show “Chrisley Knows Best,” recently revealed that her mother, Julie Chrisley, faced a cancer scare while serving time in prison. This shocking revelation has shed light on the challenges and hardships that families of incarcerated individuals face.
Savannah Chrisley has been sharing her Mother’s journey during the early days of her incarceration in her diary to fans during her podcast Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley. Last month she read some very emotional entries. On Tuesday’s podcast, she read the second part of her Julies journal from February 2023, there is where she reads about her mother’s health scare.
At the beginning of the series, Savannah had shared that her mother was told to get a flu shot and Julie requested she get her blood pressure checked while she was in the medical unit. They told her she could not have this done. As Savannah is reading about what they said to Julie she starts to cry when she sees that her Mother wrote, “I’m worth more to my family dead than I am alive.”
Savannah then says, “As her daughter read these things, first off, Mom suffers from high blood pressure really, really bad. All she wanted was her blood pressure checked and they wouldn’t even do that. And to hear your mother say she’s worth more dead than alive is probably the most heartbreaking thing anyone could ever hear. I know that my mother has made such an impact on so many people’s lives and that’s worth more than anything else.”
Another entry was made on the 17th day where Julie was told she needed to go speak to the doctor. Julie thought it was for a Gynecological visit. One of Julies biggest fears is that her cancer has returned. Savannah reads to her audience, “I sat down with the doctor and she proceeded to tell me that my HCG level was high … 10.2. This is a pregnancy hormone, it should not be that high, if it were a little higher, I would test positive on a pregnancy test. Since that’s not a possibility, it could be a sign of a tumor.
I literally fell apart, how could this be happening? I’m going to have my blood work redone and have a scan. I’ve not told anyone, I’m not going to until I know what’s going on. I’m so scared, I just want my husband, I don’t know if I can do this without him.” After a few days of not getting any answers, Julie said it was very scary. “This is so scary navigating my health journey all alone. I miss Todd so much.”
This brings tears to Her daughter thinking about what her mother had faced. She says, “To think of her sitting there worrying about. ‘Oh my god, my cancer may be back.’ And something that has stayed so steadfast in every single letter is ‘I just want my husband. I just want Todd. I miss him.” Julie shared that the high levels may be a hernia and the doctors would run more tests.
There are no other letters after February 20, 2023, and no updates to speak of.
Savannah said she would be willing to share more of her Mother’s writing if her Mom sends more. Savannah said she had a message for her mother, “All I can say is I’ve never been so proud to call my mom, Mom. I see her strength and her resilience and her humor and heart and everything. She is everything that I love and everything that I hope to be. So reading these letters and knowing her struggle about how she’s worrying about her kids and her husband, it just brings me so much peace knowing that’s the woman my mother is.”
Julie and Todd Chrisley have been incarcerated since January 2023 in separate facilities She is in Lexington, Kentucky and He is in Pensacola, Florida. This past January, the Chrisleys were awarded $1 million from a federal lawsuit against who is the former Director of Special Investigations for the Georgia Department of Revenue.
