1000-lb. Sisters, Tammy Slaton, one of the titular sisters, revealed her astonishing 440-lb. weight loss and shared her emotional journey towards self-improvement. Tammy’s transformation not only changed her physical appearance but also had a profound impact on her mental well-being.
Before embarking on her weight loss journey, Tammy admitted to feeling suicidal, depressed, and mean. Her excessive weight not only affected her physical health but also took a toll on her mental state. The burden of carrying around such immense weight made it difficult for Tammy to find joy in life and caused feelings of hopelessness.
On Tuesday she posted a TikTok in response to a fan who wanted to know how her quality of life was at present since losing so much weight. Tammy said, “My quality of life has changed so much. Before I went to rehab, I was bitter, unhappy, very super suicidal, depressed and just mean. Everybody hated me…and they still do. Oh well. I had this I don’t care attitude back then. I still do but it’s not as bad. I’m working on myself still.” She also made sure that others knew that she was in a better mood and that she appreciated life. Which in turn has changed how she treats herself and others. Tammy tells fans, “I have personally seen a lot of growth in how I treat people and my family. Just my attitude and how happier I seem. I smile a lot more.”
Tammy also shared other victories she has experienced.
Recently she took a trip to no other than Disney World. “I just came back from Disney World and I actually got on rides! And I rode in a hot air balloon. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this two years ago,” she said with a smile. “I guess you can say I’m bragging a bit about myself but I’m not trying to. I’m just patting myself on the back for achieving something. Getting the weight off and living….I can finally say I’m living life. I value life now whereas before I hated it. I hated everything about life. And now, I’m just going with it. Life throws me a curve ball and I just do my best to jump over the hurdle…well, let’s face it. I’m not jumping nowhere,” she says laughing.
Tammy has worked hard on losing weight and getting on Disney Rides and riding in a hot air balloon is some accomplishment for anyone to muster, even sitting in the front seat of a car with the seat belt buckled. It was also her first time riding in an airplane to be part of a family vacation in Pensacola, Florida.
Back in December Tammy, during an interview with PEOPLE she shared the accomplishments she has reached. She had lost 440 lbs down from 725 lbs. She had bariatric surgery in 2022 and now is at 285 lbs. At the time Tammy said, “One of the big changes that I have gone through this past year is probably small to most people. But for me it was huge. Just being able to walk without a walker or be pushed in a wheelchair, and no oxygen. I don’t even sleep with it at night anymore. Then it was being able to fit in a regular vehicle, front seat, and then the belt buckle, and not have to use an extender now. So I mean, just what seems minor to some people is giant for me.”
Tammy’s story serves as an inspiration to many struggling with their own battles against obesity or mental health issues. It highlights the transformative power that self-love and perseverance can have on one’s life.
