In a recent interview, reality television star Lala Kent made a heartfelt statement about the importance of her daughter, Ocean, never witnessing her under the influence of alcohol. Kent emphasized that there is no price that can be placed on protecting her child from such experiences.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Lala Kent spoke about the reasons behind her choice to keep her sobriety. Lala Kent is staying sober for herself and another person. That other person is her daughter Ocean 2 1/2 years old. Lala tells PEOPLE, “Sobriety’s the best gift I’ve ever given to myself, and I can’t allow my daughter to ever see that version of me. I am approaching one day at a time, but I’m approaching five years of sobriety and my daughter’s 2½, so I stay sober obviously for me because if you stay sober for someone else, that’s just a recipe for relapse.”
She wants her daughter to see the best in her and not see her any other way.
Lala continued with, “But to think about the fact that my child is always going to see me in this form and never under the influence, you can’t put a price on that. I am very grateful I found sobriety when I did.”
Lala also shared her daughter’s latest milestones. And one that is important to any child’s growth. “Oh, she’s pottying number one and two on the big girl potty. I don’t know if my baby is a baby genius. I’m biased, so I’m just going with that. She’s just the most magical human I’ve ever encountered in my life.”
Back in July Lala was hit with some negative remarks made on her July 4th Instagram post. she had shared a photo of Ocean and then one of herself in a body suit and had put her hands on her bottom. Lala told the naysayers, “I’m so over the mom shaming from some of you women. I’m a parent, I work full time, rarely have a moment just for me, and for just a second on the 4th of July, I felt hot and wanted a picture. Anything but praise is unwelcome. If you have anything negative to say go f— yourself. Leave me alone.”
Lala also noted that Ocean and Sheana Shay’s 2-year-old daughter Summer was also featured in a photo but they weren’t present during the body suit shoot. Lala said, “For the record, the kids weren’t watching me take this picture. And even if they were, we all have butts. Take time to love on yours.”
