Lala Kent, the reality TV star known for her appearances on Vanderpump Rules, recently opened up about her journey to sobriety and the pivotal moment that led her to make a change. In a candid interview with Andy Cohen, she shared the details of her “rock bottom moment” and how it propelled her towards a healthier lifestyle.
Lala is a few days away from celebrating 5 years being sober. She made the decision to get sober in 2018 after her father passed away. Lala was trying to cope with his death by binge drinking. She recently told E! News, “When I went on the full-on binge drinking for, I believe it was three or four days straight, I just woke up with that feeling of being out of control, not knowing what I did, just the guilt and the shame, and that was the moment I said, ‘I’m taking my life back. I’m not living one more day this way.” She described this moment as a wake-up call, a turning point in her life where she knew she had to make a change or risk losing everything.
During an interview with Showbiz Cheat Sheet on October 15, Lala explained how she avoids being tempted to touch alcohol again. She said, “I believe that my obsession with my sobriety is what keeps me steadfast in this mindset. I revisit my rock bottom moment, recollecting why I chose to get sober, and then I look at my life and realize that I owe my sobriety for being here. That alone is sufficient to keep me sober. I remain sober for myself, first and foremost, because failure to do so could likely result in a relapse.”
Another person who she stays sober for is her daughter Ocean. Lala says, ” When I look at my child, I think to myself, ‘Oh my gosh, I had a few years of sobriety under my belt before I became a mother.’ Knowing that she will never witness her mommy losing control due to her innate nature; she will never see me in an altered state because of substances, and, to me, that’s worth everything. So, I’ll fight for my sobriety for the rest of my life.”
Lala has really moved on with her life and doing quite well.
In August she celebrated her 33rd birthday. On October 5 she took to her Instagram to speak about everything that has been going on with her. She starts the caption with, “33 has brought me lots of happiness so far. Ocean met Messer & told me she wants a baby brother. She got her first G Wagon and her at 16 flashed before my eyes. We wrapped a very strange season of VPR 🎉. I hosted the @brentshapirofdn Spectacular for drug prevention 🙏
I found the craziest split end I’ve ever seen & it reminded me why I’m not wanting to be blonde anymore (my greys may prevent that from happening tho 🥴). I opened my MTV award 🍿, & Ocean gave major cheese at our monthly Disneyland visit. I have no complaints 💃.”
This revelation is not uncommon among those battling addiction. Often, it takes reaching an all-time low before individuals are willing to confront their demons and seek help. Kent’s story serves as a reminder that no one is immune to addiction and that seeking support is crucial for recovery.
Since embracing sobriety, Kent has become an advocate for mental health and addiction awareness. She uses her platform to spread messages of hope and encourages others who may be struggling to seek help. By sharing her own experiences, she hopes to inspire others on their journey towards healing.
Lala Kent’s openness about her sobriety journey sheds light on the importance of acknowledging one’s struggles with addiction. Her “rock bottom moment” serves as a powerful reminder that change is possible when we confront our demons head-on.
