It seems that Meri, the first sister wife on the ongoing saga “Sister Wives” is ready to leave the circle after 32 years. Kody didn’t originally call Meri on their 32nd wedding anniversary or at least until Meri 52 called him. On Sunday’s episode, Meri explained that “He didn’t actually call me or text me.
Midway through the day, I thought maybe I should just call him. And so, I did,” and “I called him, I’m like, ‘Hey,’ and he’s like, ‘Hey.’ And I said, ‘Happy Anniversary.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, happy anniversary.’ I’m like, ‘We should go out on a drive or go to dinner or something. What do you think?’ He’s like, ‘I’m watching the kids. Let me check with Robin.'”
They did go out to dinner later.
Kody 54 in a confessional admitted that he “needed a minute” and “needed a reason to be able to say no.” Kody continued “I just didn’t think it was the right thing for me to do, and I had to think about that,” At first it appeared that it would be a pleasant evening as Kody decided to go out with Meri and even picked her up to go to dinner on what was once a special day. In a conversation with Meri, Kody brought up “faking relationships” and Meri replied that she was “not faking anything,”
Meri reportedly said that Kody asserted “I don’t know why you even bother to call and say happy anniversary, Meri.” Meri said “I’m like, ‘Because it’s our anniversary.’ He’s like, ‘But we’re not mar—” she said, as he tried to say they’re not married. “He paused and then he goes, ‘But we’re not living as a married couple.”
Meri said she had “a big realization” after that conversation because she didn’t know that he felt that way. Kody admitted that “It seemed like the love had been lost. Through counseling and, you know, recommendation of my other wives, I was convinced maybe I should try and fix it,” and “It took me a long time and I wanted to see if it would work, but it just didn’t seem like it was going to work.
I thought I just had to give up around that time.” That was several years ago. During their anniversary dinner, Kody let it be known that “‘I have no desire, Meri, to have a relationship with you.’ and ‘Don’t you understand, Meri? This is never going to happen. Your life is not one that I want to insert myself into.'” Well, that was a slap in the face. Tell her what you really think Kody.
Meri commented “I’ll never forget those words. This is the first time he’s ever said this to me,” and “That was very, very painful for me. I felt my heart really speeding up because I’m like, but you promised.” Kody wanted to keep their conversation private, but Meri refused saying “I’m not gonna go the rest of my life hiding the fact that this is the way that our relationship is and hiding the fact that you said to me you don’t want to ever have a relationship with me.” Adding that “This is my story, too, and I have the right to tell my story,” she said later.
“Basically, to me, I see two options: continue living as I have for the past eight years or so, which is, you know, a freaking amazing, badass, independent person that is officially married to somebody but not emotionally, right? And I can keep doing that. Or I can terminate it. I can take the steps to move forward to be done with it.”
The two of them announced together in January on social media that they were separated and before that Meri admitted that their marriage was over on an episode last year. Robin Brown is the last sister wife standing, Janelle and Christine have left the circle and Christine is now married to someone else. Is this how it ends? Only time will tell.
