Substance abuse became a crutch for her as she sought solace from her emotional pain. However, through sheer determination and support from loved ones, Tallulah began to find healthier ways to cope with her struggles. When she was released from the Texas facility, Tallulah had a new focus on her recovery and wanted to renew her family relationships, especially with her father Bruce Willis.

    Tallulah Willis faced another mental health challenge in the form of substance abuse. In an effort to cope with overwhelming emotions and numb her pain, she turned to drugs and alcohol as a means of escape. Substance abuse became a dangerous cycle for Willis as it further worsened her already fragile mental state.     Tallulah writes that her “Recovery is probably lifelong, but I now have the tools to be present in all facets of my life, and especially in my relationship with my dad,” and “In the past, I was so afraid of being destroyed by sadness, but finally I feel that I can show up and be relied upon. I can savor that time, hold my dad’s hand, and feel that it’s wonderful,” she wrote in the essay. “That whole thing about loving yourself before you can love somebody else — it’s real.”
