Rapper Tory Lanez was convicted in the shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion in her feet in July 2020. At the time Megan posted on Instagram that “I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me,” she posted, adding, “I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I’m expected to make a full recovery.” Lanez pleaded not guilty.
Lanez was facing 23 years in jail while prosecutors asked for less as did friend and rapper Iggy Azalea asked the judge to show mercy in his sentencing.
Ultimately, the judge sentenced Lanez to ten years in prison. Daystar Peterson a.k.a. Tory Lanez was found guilty of “three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence” in December 2022.
Daystar’s father Sonstar spoke to the judge explaining that music was Daystar’s only “solace” was his music after his mother passed away in 2021. Sonstar continued, “I don’t think anybody ever gets over that. But his music became his outlet”, Megan Pete a.k.a. Megan Thee Stallion 28 sent a victim’s impact statement that was read by an L.A. Deputy District Attorney that read “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
