Daymond John, the renowned entrepreneur and investor on the hit TV show “Shark Tank,” recently made headlines after obtaining a restraining order against three contestants from the show.
Al ‘Bubba’ Baker, former NFL Defensive End, along with his wife and daughter appeared on ‘Shark Tank. The trio made a deal with Daymond for $300,000 in exchange for 30% of their company.
In his petition, Daymond John claimed that the contestants had been posting disparaging remarks about him. Bubba’s Q Boneless Back Ribs, along with the trio, suggested in their posts that Daymond was trying to take control of their business.
Al ‘Bubba’ Baker stated on social media that Daymond John changed the agreement reached on Shark Tank to $100,000 for 35% of Babba’s Q Boneless Ribs. The judge found their remarks to be negative and disparaging to Daymond and DFV ( DF Ventures).
After the ruling Daymond John stated “Today’s decision against the Bakers, their company, and their false statements is a moment of vindication. The actual facts, the record, and the federal Judge’s opinion have confirmed that I did not — and could not have — committed any wrongdoing. I have always upheld transparency and honesty throughout my journey as an entrepreneur.”
Some argue that this restraining order sets a dangerous precedent by limiting freedom of speech or expression. However, it is essential to distinguish between genuine criticism or disagreement and harassment or threats. Everyone has the right to express their opinions, but when those opinions turn into malicious intent legal action becomes necessary.
